How to Use an Electric Blanket

For many of us, being home and snuggling up under a warm blanket on a cold night is a must. And what could be better than curling up under a warm electric blanket on a cold night?

Electric blankets have been used to provide warmth for many years, and are a great alternative to blankets that may not be as warm. Electric blankets are especially helpful if you suffer from a chronic illness that makes you more susceptible to cold temperatures, and can help reduce the symptoms of the illness. Plus, they are a great way to get a good night’s sleep without the worry of cold legs or feet.

However, it’s important to know how to use an electric blanket to get the best results. Making sure you use the right settings, and using it with other bedding can help keep you warm all winter long.

To use your electric blanket, you first need to read the safety instructions, spread it over the bed, turn down the heat settings, turn the blanket on and enjoy a comfy night.

Let’s detail all these tips:

Step One: Read Safety Precautions

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, your electric blanket’s settings must match the size of your mattress. If you’re using a blanket that’s too small for your bed, the risk of wire fire increases — especially if you’ve got pets or young children.

Your electric blanket should also be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Follow the guidelines that are provided in your electric blanket’s user manual.

Step Two: Set up Your Blanket

The setup of your blanket is important to getting a good night’s sleep. You want to make sure that you’re putting your blanket on the top of your bed correctly, so it can heat up evenly and not just one side. Make sure that the blanket is completely flat on the bed and that you’re not missing any edges.

Step Three: Turn Down the Heat

In order for your electric blanket to work properly, you need to make sure you’re not setting the temperature too high. If it’s too high, it can easily cause damage to your blanket or even worse, damage to your bedroom. Make sure that you’re turning down the heat on your blankets to a comfortable level that will make for a great night of sleep.

Step Four: Put on Your Cozy Clothes

Make sure you’re putting on some warm clothes to help your body stay warm. Go for a pair of cozy pajamas, a long-sleeved t-shirt, and some comfy socks. This will help your body stay warm and will make you feel all snuggly in your bed.

Step Five: Go to Bed and Turn On Your Blanket

Once you’ve got your blanket set up and you’ve got some nice, warm clothes on, it’s time for bed! Make sure you’re turning off your lights and making your room nice and dark. This will help your body relax and fall asleep more easily.

Step Six: Enjoy a Comfy Night

Once you’re laid down in bed, you’ll want to enjoy a nice, comfy night of sleep. There’s nothing better than a warm bed on a cold day, so enjoy the warmth and comfort of your electric blanket.

Step Eight: Turn Off Your Blanket

When it’s time for you to get up, make sure you’re turning off the blanket. If you have the option, make sure you’re opening the windows to let out some of the extra heat in the room.

Extra Step: Wash Your Blanket

Once you’ve finished using your electric blanket and have had a good night’s sleep, it’s time to wash your blanket. Make sure you’re washing your blanket in cold water and not over-drying it. This helps prevent any sort of damage to the blanket or your dryer.

Extra Step: Store Your Blanket

If you’re not using your blanket for a while, make sure you’re storing it. You can hang it up or fold it and put it in a drawer. Make sure you’re keeping your blanket out of the way so it can keep its shape and you can use it whenever you need it.
